Ioan Allen, senior vice president of Dolby Laboratories, will present a 76-year chronicle of feature film stereo optical soundtrack development as a 129th AES Convention Historical Event. The two-hour event is scheduled for Thursday, November 4, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Dolby Theater, a short ride from the Moscone Center.

Sound development company Sonic Reality in Sunrise, Fla., has released a new sound library: Neil Peart Drums, Vol. 1: The Kit ($199 MSRP), a software re-creation of Peart's Drum Workshop (DW) drum kit that uses Sonic Reality’s expandable Infinite Player library for software such as FXpansion’s BFD2 and Native Instruments’ Kontakt. Peart, a member of the band Rush, collaborated with Sonic Reality and producer/engineer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains) to bring the authentic sound of his custom-designed “Snakes and Arrows" DW drum set into the digital domain.

Guitar Center announces a management succession plan that the company says it will implement during the fourth quarter of 2010. Under this plan, Greg Trojan, presently President and Chief Operating Officer, will assume the position of Chief Executive Officer. Trojan will also remain a member of Guitar Center’s Board of Directors. Marty Albertson, presently Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, will step down as Chief Executive Officer but will remain as non-executive Chairman of the Board.
